Pinkney Picks Apart UAB Blazers in Win

East Carolina took a giant step toward a second straight appearance in the Conference USA championship game with a 37-21 victory over UAB on Saturday.
"It was the ultimate bend-but-don't break game," ECU coach Skip Holtz said. "When you look at the stat sheet you say, 'How in the world do you win that football game?' But when you look at what this team did, they did the things you have to do to win a football game."
The East Division-leading Pirates (7-4, 6-1 C-USA) held a one-game lead over the Blazers (5-6, 4-3) and Southern Miss (6-4, 4-2) heading into Saturday's contest. However, thanks to a three-touchdown effort by Dwayne Harris, the reigning conference champs have widened that margin.

Quarterback Patrick Pinkney had one of his most efficient performances of the season as he hit on 20 of his 25 pass attempts for 250 yards and three scores. Pinkney also concluded his second straight game without an interception to give ECU its first turnover-free game of the year.

The Pirates can host the conference title game if they win next Saturday against Southern Mississippi. Kickoff is 1:30 EST at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
