20,000 Kris Allen Fans in Downtown Conway

Friday was officially recognized as 'Kris Allen Day', as 20,000 fans strong turned out for the parade and concert in downtown Conway, Arkansas.

Because of traffic and lack of parking, we decided to walk the twenty minutes from our house to the festivities.

When we arrived downtown, it was already packed, with thousands waiting for the events to begin. It was muggy and hot, and long before the parade started, we were sweating pretty good. Though rain was predicted, not a single drop was felt, and everything went off without a hitch.

From our angle, we were not able to see the parade, but we could follow along on the huge digital big screen. After several videos and speakers, Kris Allen finally took the stage. He appeared to be at a loss for words, finally telling the screaming crowd, "You guys are crazy."

Allen sang three songs, was presented a key to the city, and the day was declared 'Kris Allen Day' by the mayor. A humbled Allen said, "I owe everything to you guys, 'cause I know you're voting your tails off. So thanks for that."

As soon as it was over, we left to change our two year-old's diaper and get a cool drink. All in all, the day was 'Kick Awesome'. We look forward to seeing Kris Allen again on American Idol Tuesday evening!
