East Carolina's hot bats burned N.C. State Wednesday night at sold-out Doak Field at Dail Park.
The No. 16 Pirates (22-5), hitting .362 on the season, used a pair of three-run homers in the third inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead, and cruised to a 14-4 victory over rival N.C. State (15-13) in front of 2,750 spectators in the midweek, non-conference contest.
"They obviously are swinging the bat very well," N.C. State coach Elliott Avent said. "With us going to Boston College this weekend, you don't want to work anybody too much with a big conference series coming up."
Coach Avent noted that the Pirates were utilizing every weapon in their arsenal to take down his team.
"It looks like we saw a lot of their best arms tonight," he said. "They threw some weekend guys out there in a game that was seemingly comfortable."
What a friggin' whiney sore loser! East Carolina should bring a case of pampers and a dozen pacifiers when we play them again in a couple of weeks. I'm sure East Carolina Coach Billy Godwin wanted to whip Avent's arse right there at home plate.
East Carolina University will hit the road Thursday for a three-game Conference USA series against the University of Alabama-Birmingham, which starts Friday night at 8 p.m.
ECU and N.C. State will meet again this season on April 15th in Greenville at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Note: Pirates Rocket to No. 16 in Baseball America, NCBWA Rankings.

I love that quote:
"Yeah, we kicked your ass again."
Gets me ready for when the Sox do the same thing to the Yankees (and Rays!) all year.
I love baseball!
